Mobile App Heatmaps: The Best Tools for iOS, Android, and React Native
Which tools draw heatmaps for native, React Native, and Flutter apps, and which only do it on the web

The short answer
- React Native or Expo: Vexo builds tap heatmaps per screen, app version, and device model, from the SDK that also runs your analytics and replays.
- Free, on any mobile stack: Microsoft Clarity covers native iOS and Android, React Native, and Flutter.
- More than taps: UXCam maps swipes, zooms, rage taps, and unresponsive gestures as well as taps.
- Not on mobile: PostHog, Amplitude, Mixpanel, and Datadog heatmaps are web only, and Firebase has no heatmap product.
A heatmap answers a question a funnel can't: what do people actually touch on this screen? On the web, most analytics tools draw heatmaps from clicks and scroll depth. Mobile apps are harder, because there's no page to re-render, so a mobile heatmap needs touch coordinates plus a picture of each screen, and plenty of well-known analytics tools only offer heatmaps on the web.
This post covers the tools that draw heatmaps for mobile apps, and which popular tools don't. Every competitor fact comes from the vendor's own docs or pricing page, listed under Sources. Prices are as of November 2026.

The tools, one by one
Vexo
Best for: React Native and Expo teams that want heatmaps next to their analytics and session replays.
Vexo records the position of every tap, scaled by the screen's pixel density, along with the screen, app version, and device model it happened on. It aggregates the taps into heat points over a screenshot of that screen, taken once per screen, app version, and device model rather than per user. You can switch between app versions to compare a redesign with what came before, and filter by device model to find touch targets that are too small on some phones. If the same screen looks different for different users, such as an admin and a member layout, call setHeatmapSegment() (SDK 1.7.0 and later) to give each variant its own screenshot and taps.
Heatmaps come from the same vexo() call as your analytics and session replays, so heatmaps, analytics, and replays sit in the same dashboard. The free plan includes heatmaps, along with 500K events and 1,000 session replays a month, and paid plans include unlimited heatmaps; events past the free allowance cost from $30 per additional million events, scaling down to $12/M at higher volume. See heatmaps and our pricing section.
Microsoft Clarity
Best for: any mobile stack on a zero budget, including Flutter.
Clarity tracks every tap on the device and generates heatmaps automatically, with views for all, dead, rage, error, first, and last taps. Its SDKs cover native Android and iOS, React Native, and Flutter, with heatmaps and recordings on both Android and iOS. Clarity is free, with no traffic limits, and each heatmap covers up to 100,000 page views. Conversion maps aren't supported in mobile apps, and the React Native SDK doesn't run in Expo Go.
UXCam
Best for: mobile product teams that want the most gesture detail and are fine with quote-based pricing.
UXCam's heatmaps filter by gesture type (tap, swipe, and zoom) and show rage taps, first and last gestures, and unresponsive gestures. It has SDKs for Android, iOS, React Native, Flutter, and more; on React Native, Flutter, and Cordova, you tag screens through its API so heatmaps line up with the right screen. Pricing is based on monthly sessions, with a custom quote and a free trial.
FullStory
Best for: teams already on FullStory for the web that want mobile in the same place.
FullStory supports click maps and conversion maps in native mobile apps; scroll maps aren't supported on mobile yet. Mobile heatmaps need SDK 1.38.0 or later and work in Android, iOS, and React Native apps, but not in WebViews. Mobile capture is a paid add-on that isn't listed on the free plan, and paid pricing is quote-only.
LogRocket
Best for: engineering teams that want heatmaps alongside replay, network logs, and crashes.
LogRocket lists heatmaps for web, Android, and iOS, and says React Native features follow the underlying platform; heatmaps aren't supported for Flutter apps. Click maps, heatmaps, and rage-click maps are included from the Core plan, which starts at $83 a month for 10,000 sessions billed yearly.
Popular tools without mobile heatmaps
- Firebase and Google Analytics: Firebase's product list has no heatmap or session replay product. Searching for a “Firebase heatmap” usually means you need a second tool next to Firebase Analytics.
- PostHog: heatmaps are collected by its JavaScript web SDK.
- Amplitude: heatmaps support web session replays only, not mobile apps or SDKs.
- Mixpanel: heatmaps aren't available in its mobile session replay SDKs.
- Datadog: heatmaps are supported for browser session replay only.
- Smartlook offered mobile heatmaps, but it stopped selling new subscriptions on May 31, 2026, and plans to shut down the platform on September 30, 2027.
When Vexo is and isn't the right choice
Vexo is a good fit if:
- Your app is built with React Native or Expo.
- You want to compare heatmaps across app versions and device models, or split them by user segment.
- You want heatmaps, replays, and analytics from one SDK, with no screen tagging.
- You want heatmaps on the free plan.
Choose another tool if:
- You need heatmaps for a website. Vexo's heatmaps are for React Native and Expo apps.
- You need swipe, scroll, or rage-tap maps. Vexo's heatmaps show taps; UXCam maps swipes and zooms, and Clarity and UXCam break out rage taps.
- Your app is Flutter or native-only. Vexo's mobile SDK is for React Native and Expo.
- You're on Expo SDK 58 and can't ship a native build. Tap capture there needs vexo-analytics 1.14.0 or later and a native rebuild; an over-the-air update alone falls back to best-effort capture.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is a mobile app heatmap?
A mobile app heatmap overlays where users tap (and, in some tools, swipe or rage-tap) on a picture of a screen, so you can see which controls get used, which get ignored, and where people tap on things that aren't interactive. A mobile app has no page a tool can re-render the way it can a website, so mobile heatmaps are built per screen from touch positions and a screenshot or recording of that screen.
What heatmap should I use for mobile apps?
For React Native and Expo apps, Vexo builds tap heatmaps from the same SDK that records analytics and replays, and lets you compare them across app versions and device models. Microsoft Clarity is free and covers native, React Native, and Flutter apps. UXCam maps swipes and zooms as well as taps, and FullStory and LogRocket add mobile heatmaps to their replay products.
Can I use heatmaps in a React Native app?
Yes. Vexo, Microsoft Clarity, UXCam, and FullStory all support heatmaps in React Native apps. With Vexo, heatmaps work from the vexo() call that starts tracking, with no screen tagging. UXCam asks React Native apps to tag screens through its API.
Does Firebase have heatmaps?
No. Firebase's product list, which includes Analytics, Crashlytics, and Performance Monitoring, has no heatmap or session replay product. To see heatmaps in an app that uses Firebase Analytics, add a heatmap tool such as Vexo or Microsoft Clarity alongside it.
Are there free heatmap tools for mobile apps?
Microsoft Clarity is free, with no traffic limits, on iOS, Android, React Native, and Flutter. Vexo's free plan includes heatmaps for React Native and Expo apps, along with 500K events and 1,000 session replays a month.
Do PostHog, Amplitude, and Mixpanel have mobile heatmaps?
Not as of November 2026. PostHog's heatmaps come from its JavaScript web SDK, Amplitude's heatmaps support web session replays only, and Mixpanel says heatmaps aren't available in its mobile session replay SDKs. Datadog's heatmaps are also for browser sessions only.
How are mobile heatmaps different from web heatmaps?
Web heatmaps usually show clicks and scroll depth on a page. Mobile heatmaps track touches on a screen, so they show taps and gestures instead of mouse clicks. Because the same screen looks different on different devices and app versions, good mobile heatmaps let you filter by device model and app version.
